The Journal of American Academy of Dermatology tested 47,335 women in a health study to see if acne and milk were related. The women were asked what milk they drank and if they had severe acne or not when growing up. The results from this investigation proved women who drank two or more glasses of skim milk every day were 44% more prone to suffer from nodule and cystic acne.

A 22% percent of women who drank over two glasses of skim milk everyday suffered from severe acne more than a person who only drank one glass a day. The results of this investigation made the connection between acne and milk, positive. More specifically, hormones and bioactive molecules were the substances in milk that caused acne.

Other fundamental substances in milk known to cause acne are: testosterone, estrogen, progesterone. Transforming growth and insulin-like growth factors are also a factor in milk promoting acne. A lot of milk producers inject additional hormones into cows so the cows produce more milk. Unfortunately these substances find their way to the milk and, finally, into the milk we drink everyday. Milk producers say the amounts of the hormones are small, however, even though the amounts are small the consequences may be big!

Also, investigations state that Iodine in milk may also be a main factor in causing acne. Iodine is already a substance in milk. However, the over use of Iodine to keep cows away from infection results in more of this hormone into our milk.
